The U-MP618 was a full sized city bus primarily for Japanese market. In New Zealand, Auckland International Airport Limited purchased a small number of U-MP618Ps as shuttle buses between terminals.

In order to gain more shares in single bus market in Hong Kong, Mitsubishi Motors sent a demonstrator to Hong Kong for evaluation. The bus was registered as FL5622 and lent to Kowloon Motor Bus Company for trial run. The fleet number in KMB was AP1. Remember that it is not the Neoplan Centroliner today, the time of evaluation was in 1992. After the trial period, KMB did not buy this vehicle. It was then passed to Citybus and Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation for further evaluation. The three companies had their own liveries. However, neither of them made purchased and it had been a property of the local Mitsubishi Motors agent for several years. In the mid-1990s, a tour bus company called Yan Yan took the bus and deployed it to contract service. Now, it has been repainted to the livery as shown in the above picture, with destination equipment removed.

The most characteristic thing of this bus is its doors. Both doors have lamps above it. The rear door is a inward sliding door in typical Japanese specifications.

Owing to poor mechanical reliability, the bus was scrapped in 2002.
