It has a smaller destination equipment and description at the windscreen. This bus, together with most of the other 39 buses, has a deflector at the left side of the upper deck to avoid damaging the windscreen by branches protruded from road side. Twenty of the forty buses (3301L-3320L) were built in England and the rest (3321L-3340L) were built in Hong Kong. The L in the fleet number shows that it has low height (4.17m). They are mostly deployed on toughest routes of the company: 9, 14, 15 and 25. They serve Shek O, Stanley, the Peak and Braemar Hill. Route 15 needs such buses because of their low height. The allowed height of Jardine Bridge on Peak Road is only 4m. The 33XXLs and their predecessors: Fleetlines, Dominators and Arab Mk Vs have similar heights. Drivers have to move a small portion of the bus to the opposite carriageway. Otherwise, the port side of the bus will hit the bottom of the bridge. Route 9 and Route 14 need them because Shek O Road and Tai Tam Road have many curves. The roundabout at the junction of Shek O Road and Big Wave Bay Road is very small. Even Victory 2s, Jubilants and Darts have difficulties in turning there. These 10.3m buses may make turn there, but I think it is also very difficult. Apart from serving Route 15, 3301L served Route 25 on 15 January 2000. The pictures above were taken at Central Ferry Piers Bus Terminus. This picture was taken on 8 January 2000, showing the rear details of the vehicle. Go to Page 2 Return to Dennis Trident Page created: 9 January 2000 Last updated: 20 April 2003 |
