The T8 series was unveiled in the 1978 Brussels exhibition. It was a new integral coach series with the famous Alizée styling. The series consists of single and double deck coaches of various length and number of axles. Some of them are even articulated. The T8 was a long-lived design. The production ceased as late as the late 1990's.

The TD824 was the 12m long, 3-axle double-deck variant of the series. It was sold well in Europe and Overseas, including dozens to Japan.
