The Optare Excel was a full-size low floor single decker. It was built in a range of lengths, namely 9.6m, 10m, 10.7m, 11.5m and 11.8m. Variants were denoted as L960, L1000, L1070, L1150 and L1180 respectively.

However, many operators found that the Excel were not reliable and sold them as second hand buses.
