In 1973, the first two prototype MAN SD200 (Fleet nos. 2514 and 2515) were built for Berlinen Verkehrsbetriebe, the public transportation company of Berlin. From 1974 to 1985, a total of 954 buses were mass produced for the operator. Three operators built bodies for the SD 200. Gaubschat Plant built 47, Orenstein & Koppel built 195 and Waggon Union built the rest. These buses started to be withdrawn in early 1990s. Some of the buses were sold to China as second and buses, while others were converted to open top buses and provided sightseeing service in various cities in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and
