On 19 November 1997, Volgren handed over a 12-metre 24.350HOCL-N double-deck demonstrator in Melbourne to Citybus for evaluation. The A57NL chassis was made in Australia by MAN Automobile (Pty) Australia Limited and bodied by Volgren, an Australian bodybuilder. The bus is the second non-step double-deck city bus in the world. Like Dennis Trident, its front axle can be kneeled to facilitate disabled access. Before it participated the UITP show at Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre in October 1998, it had a typical yellow livery with blue square patterns. But now, it has been repainted to ordinary Citybus livery.

This bus became the operator's Year of the Snake Bus in January 2001.
