It was a midibus with integral construction in the 1980s. The type was introduced to Hong Kong during 1988. Two buses were allocated to each of the two major operators, Kowloon Motor Bus (AMR1, AMR2) and China Motor Bus (CM1, CM2). However, owing to their poor air-conditioning performance, high cost and small passenger capacity, no further order had been made. The two KMB buses have been exported back to Britain by 1992 and the two CMB buses have been scrapped by 1995. Although it was not welcomed by Hong Kong operators, the sales in other places of the world have remained good. When Optare and DAF tookover MCW, Optare continued to produce Metroriders.
