I would like to introduce this type of bus by quoting the description in catalogue E820-BUS published in September 1981.

"As more and more cities come to rely on buses to help solve the problem of public transportation, Isuzu's JCR460ZZ and JCR500ZZ make more and more sense. Both feature a wide-track design with the front wheels set well back for better maneuverability and to allow for the installation of bodies with doors up front. In fact Isuzu offers bodies with a seating capacity of 44 or 48 passengers depending on the chassis. And as with most models in the line, chassis only can be ordered.

Among the standard features is the powerful Isuzu 6BD1 diesel engine, a proven performer under all climatic conditions. Other standard features include a 5-speed direct-drive transmission, a vacuum-assisted hydraulic brake system (front/rear independent) and a 140 liter fuel tank.

With the forward positioned engine, either chassis can be easily fitted with a locally built body. Available options include air assisted brake, an exhaust brake, and 200 liter fuel tank."

The buses described in this entries fall into Front Over Hang Long Type JCR-ZZ.

There were quite a few examples of JCR460ZZ in Hong Kong and Macau. Transmac SARL had 10 JCR460ZZs.

The JCR500ZZ was very rare in Hong Kong.

There are quite a few JCR500ZZs in New Zealand. Some operators still deploy them as tourist coaches.
