The Y Series was a mid-engined bus and coach chassis developed in September 1970. Variants with different lengths and engines were built. The Y series came with a three-letter designation. The first letter was a Y denoting a mid-engined chassis The second letter represented the use of engine and the third letter indicated its length.

Vast numbers were built and production continued until the close of Dunstable plant in 1986.
