The Bedford OB entered into market in 1939. It was a normal control bus. Only 73 were built before suspension of bus production in Bedford factory during World War II. After the war, over 12,000 units were built to operators in Britain and overseas.

A number of ex-British OBs were shipped to Malta. Many of them had been converted to forward control with local body to increase the passenger capacity.
