The LO 812 is an economic omnibus chassis developed for the operation under mediocre road conditions. The chassis are mostly built in Brazil and body builders in many parts of the world develop bodies for such chassis. In Australia, the LO 812 is common on routes linking suburb and urban areas. Its passenger capacity equals a midibus, but its selling price and operation cost are much lower than ordinary midibuses like Dennis Darts and MAN 10.160s. Westbus purchsed 75 single-doored Custom Coaches bodied LO 812s during 1992-1995. Some of them have the livery of Ansett Australia and act as staff buses linking Sydney and Sydney International Airport. Marlin Coast Sunbus of Australia also operates Custom Coaches bodied LO 812s. The type forms nearly the entire fleet. Unlike Westbus buses, they have two doors. The rear door is in front of the rear axle and air-conditioning from Nippondenso. The buses have openable windows and air-conditioning is only available during summer periods. Return to Mercedes Benz Page created: 31 August 2000 |
