The name "Tiger" had been used under Leyland products for many years, and there were many totally different designs. The TR Series Tiger is discussed here. The TR series Tiger first appeared as a B43 experimental coach at the 1980 Commercial Motor Show. It was a totally new mid-engined chassis with full air suspension. When the name "Tiger" was released in March 1981, 4 variants, viz. TRBTL11.2R(L), TRBTL11.3R(L), TRCTL11.2R(L) and TRCTL11.3R(L) were available. TR: Tiger Options for pneumo-cyclic and hydracyclic gearboxes were available, depending on different uses. In 1983, the range was expanded by allowing the chassis be fitted with Gardner engines, i.e. 6LXB and 6LXCT. On the other hand, the two fuel tanks could be fitted transversely behind the rear axle to give more space for luggage accommodation. In order to comply with the strict axle loading requirements in New Zealand and some states in Australia, the 3-axled TRCTL11.4R was developed. An undriven trailing axle was added behind the rear axle. Return to Leyland Motors Limited Page created: 20 June 2003 Last updated: 29 July 2012 |
