In 1953 Leyland introduced an underfloor mid-engined model called the Royal Tiger. This model was used in both domestic and export markets. Queen Elizabeth II took a Royal Tiger when she visited Australia in the 1950s. Bombay Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) purchased a number of Royal Tigers in 1961.
