The Leyland Hippo was a successful 3-axled heavy duty truck series from the 1930s to the 1960s. Some of the variants were used in military operations. Two Hippo military trucks built in the 1940s were converted into buses in Malta in the 1950s. One of the rear axles was removed and a bus body was fitted. These two buses had undergone re-body exercises to carry more passengers, allow entrance in front of the front overhang and moved engine from the front to underfloor in the middle.
