The last day of service of FBY048The Plaxton bodied LH/1417 was registered WJN22S in 1978 in Britain. It started its life in Gozo as Y-0829 in 1994. It was re-registered FBY048 by January 1998. The photographs below were taken in Gozo on 17 May 2011.
FBY048 transported tourists on John Paul II Street in the morning.
The 63-year-old driver and the bus was waiting to set off at Victoria Terminus at about 14:30.
Trix It Xatt was built along the cliff to link the ferry pier at Mgarr and other parts of Gozo. At about 16:15, FBY048 lost its control, smashed 5 parked cars and ran into a retaining wall on Lourdes Street.
The police attended the scene and passengers were being helped out of the bus through the emergency exit
The road was totally blocked by the wreckage. Backpackers on the left had to walk past the scene to the ferry pier. A woman in black described the incident to the police officers at the back of the bus. A wounded passenger was being treated on the right.
Fortunately, nobody was inside any of the wrecked cars and the bus did not crashed on its left off the wall.
Firemen arrived the scene and checked whether anybody was trapped. Some seat backs were bent after the incident. A Leyland dump truck towed the bus away about an hour after the incident. Go to Page 4 Return to Page 2 Return to Bristol LH Page created: 25 September 2011 |
