The Regent 3s were developed for London Transport as early as 1939. The RT and RTL class (built by Leyland and fitted with Leyland engine) have dominated the London Transport fleet in the late 1940's and the whole 1950's. The last bus of all left London Transport in 1979. Over 7000 were built. Many of them are preserved or used as sightseeing buses in many countries. One of the buses for Malaysia participated for the first double-decker trial run in Singapore in 1953.
